5 Ways to Find Money To Pay Off Debt

Subscribe in a reader

By Paul Sarwana

As a society that loves to spend money, it is certain that some of us are in debt. Whether it is from bills, financial issues, credit cards, or just over spending, debt is debt. Getting rid of debt is one of the most complicated challenges in life, and the more challenging part is finding money to pay off the debt.

To pay off any type of debt, it is necessary to have money that is more than the minimum payment. To find money to pay off your debt, there are many things you can do. Here are a few:

1. If you have a job, you're in luck. Many jobs these days offer raises and overtime payments. If your job offers these options, take them! If you get a raise or a bonus, use portions of that money towards the debt you are facing. Since the money is extra, you can easily put it towards your debt. Work overtime if possible. Any extra money is sure to help you.

2. Also dealing with jobs, try to get a part time job. Work a few hours at nights or on the weekends to find some extra cash in your bank account. Raise cash by working in a temporary or seasonal position at a department store or a grocery store. This will allow you to eventually build up enough money to pay off your debt. Remember, this position is temporary, so you don't have to keep the job for months and months.

3. Sell unneeded items around your home that you no longer use. Since internet business is booming and websites like eBay are popular as ever, you can always find money by selling things. eBay or any other online auctions is a perfect way to raise money to pay off your debt. If you're not an e-business fan, you can also conduct a yard sale. You will be amazed at how much money you can find by selling things.

4. If tax season is on its way and you usually receive a pretty decent tax refund, then you can find money to pay off you debts using the money you get back from the government. You can easily put some or all of this cash towards debt payment and credit card debt.

5. Reduce how much money you spend. If you decrease the amount of purchases you make, you are sure to find more money in your bank account. If you are not deep down in debt, you can easily stop buying certain unnecessary things and then the money you used to spend on unneeded items can be put towards raising cash to get rid of debt. Sit down one day and look at your bank statement or make a list of the things you usually buy every week or month. Find the items that you do not need and can live without for a little. This way you'll have extra money to put towards debt repayment.

These are just five ways to find money to get rid of debt. Some of them will work better than others, and some people will favor different ways. Whatever way of raising cash works best for you, stick to it, and you are sure to get out of debt eventually. You might even consider combining a few choices.

Financially Fit Hispanic Thoughts on Wealth

No, you will not always have a car payment. No, you will not always have credit cards bills. No, you do not need to build up credit by occurring more and more credit.

Out of high school the only thing that I was working for was good credit. So what did I do, I put merchandise on credit cards. Why did I do this? Because like the majority of Americans, I wanted to build up credit. I was taught that the more I credit that I had the more higher my credit score. I made sure that I always had a balance and I was only making minimum payments.

Did I have a good credit score? Absolutely, but I also owned a ton of money to banks. I was paying more than a hundred dollars a month on interest alone. I know maybe that is not as high as other people but for a teenager, it was a lot and I thought I was doing well, building wealth. Little did I know.

Its true when people say if only I knew what I know now. I believe I would've been even more well off today but you know what, you also live and learn. The is exactly what I did, learn. I learned that having a line of credit does not mean that you are winning financially. Nor does it mean that you are on your way to incredible wealth. I used to think that my platinum visa card was my ticket to wealth and that the bank really liked me as a customer. I was naive, ignorant of how money works.

Here is how money works: You work for the money, the more you keep the more you can save and invest. The more you borrow the less money you can keep and invest. The financially fit people are those who keep their paychecks and in return use the money to make more money. The not so financially fit are those people who every paycheck have to pay car payments, credit card bills, student loans, payday loans and so on.

So do what you can to get to the point where you are financially fit. Enjoy your money and start to live as stress free as possible.

Credit Card Debt Consolidation

Credit Card Debt Consolidation

The more I talk to people about debt the more I realize how much people are in need of help. The idea of getting out of debt is just that, an idea. I started to look into debt consolidation to see why it even exists. I came across a page by MSN Money and another by http://www.bankrate.com/ and Bankrate actually has a Credit Card Debt Consolidation Calculator. I entered in an average amount of Credit Card Debt and this was my result making minimum payments:

Result

I entered a $10,000 balance with a 19% interest rate. I put that my minimum payment is calculated using 2.78%. My fixed minimum payment was $278 every month. The result was mind boggling; it said that it will take me 330 months to be rid of my debt. In that time, I will pay $12,931.51 in interest alone.
Based on simple math, credit card debt consolidation will work. The only thing is that you must be motivated to get out of debt and stay out of debt. If you consolidate your credit card debts, be sure to change your spending habits or you will find yourself in financial trouble.

Solution

So what company do you choose, how do you even start the credit card debt consolidation process? Good question, what you will want to do is your homework and do not sign up for something you do not understand. Also do not work with a company that has a bad track record for helping people. I was speaking with Robert Smith, the owner of Advanced Credit Solutions, and he was telling me about the amount of companies that are ripping people off because this type of business affects a lot of people in America today.

Robert Smith is founder of Advanced Credit Solutions or (ACS). He is a money coach and takes great pride in helping individuals and families turn a stressful financial situation into a fresh start. ACS offers a variety of programs to help people get out of debt including debt settlement, debt consolidation, debt arbitration and budgeting services. ACS was established in 2001 celebrating our 7 year anniversary this month. They have a great track record not only with the BBB, (Click to view BBB report), but with their clients as well. ACS is a proven leader in the debt settlement industry and services clients nationwide.

ACS and Debt Free Hispanic have decided to offer a Free Personal Financial Consultation to anyone who needs help with their credit card bills and unsecured debt. Please call 1-800-508-8793 from 12 noon -11 p.m. EST and tell them you heard about them from Debt Free Hispanic.

Income Tax Stimulus Check

So did you receive your check yet? My wife and I did, through direct deposit. As promised by the government, $600 per person. I put it straight into our savings account. If you are in debt, I would use it to gain traction on your debts. Pay off your small loans or credit cards and call to cancel them and cut them up. Get it past you and move forward using cash instead of credit cards. Break the bad spending habits and enter the new wealth habits.

New Floor No Financing needed

A new floor is needed in the kitchen. Home Depot has great clinics available to help with jobs around the house. One thing they push is their Credit Card financing to get jobs done. I can't wait to let them know that I'm debt free and I plan to stay that way (hint: reason i'm going to the in-store clinic) Now that I have money I plan on keeping it and not paying a high paying professional to do work I am capable of doing. Just another cost saving tip for those you on your way to debt Freedom. - Debt Free Hispanic

What is your PASSION?

You've heard the saying, "Someone with Passion can be 10 times more effective than any man with a desire". So what is your Passion? What are you most passionate about? What is it that captures your full attention? For me its finances. When someone is talking about money and how they make money, I listen. I listen because I want to know how they did it and I want to look for ways to do it better and make even more money. That is how I got out of debt. I started to see how people were living their lives that had money and I realized that the way I was living was going to keep me in debt. So I went on a journey of not eating out and living off of sandwiches which I love, and bring lunch to work and only ordering water when I ate at restaurants. I think I took it too far because now I get disturbed when people do not order water and pay over $2 for soda or a special drink. But i'm passionate about staying out of debt and living life in a way where people can see my passion for saving. So I ask again, What is your PASSION?

Hispanic Debt On The Rise

With the Hispanic population growing to be the major minority in America, debt is also on the rise for Hispanic families. It's easy to see why Hispanics are acquiring more and more debt. Hispanics have great purchasing power and a lot us do not have a financial plan. So what do Hispanics do....SPEND.

We spend money on self gratification. The following are areas in which Hispanics tend to spend most of their money: Trucks, Weekend Entertainment, Jewelry, Televisions, Stereos, Expensive Food, Alcohol, Clothing and mortgages just to name a few. You'd be suprised how many Hispanics do not have a checking account and cash checks on pay day. You don't believe me, here's a fact that i'm throwing out because I know it's true, ready, Hispanics spend more with cash than they do with checks and credit cards. That is why outdoor Flea Markets are successful with the Hispanic population. So how is debt rising? Well the credit card companies have made it easy for Hispanics to apply for a VISA. Hispanics fall for the cash back scheme which is appealing since we handle cash more than we do checks.

So when Hispanics receive the credit cards, they take out cash advances because thats how they spend money. All the while they are racking up credit card debt with every cash advance. Since a lot of Hispanics live for the weekend, its not unusual for them to take out a Pay Day Loan. Another example is how Hispanics pay for their vehicles. Hispanics pay their monthly car payments with cash because its easier for Hispanics to pay with cash at the dealership than to mail in a check. If I owned an auto dealership I would set up a plan that would help Hispanics to pay with cash, I guarantee, more Hispanics would purchase vehicles from that dealership. At the end of the day even with most Hispanics paying with cash, purchasing on credit is becoming easier for Hispanics and so debt continues to rise with the growing Hispanic population. -Debt Free Hispanic

What drives you to go to work?

I was reading about how people who love to go to work do so because they are driven to work. I started to ask myself the same questions, what drive me to go to work. When I was in debt, I was driven by the paycheck so that I can pay down my debt. The more I saw the debt go down the more money I used to pay debt. I was driven by results. I remember selling junk on eBay that became someone elses treasure. I took that money and paid on my debt. Every odd job I would do I would appy it to the debt. There were days when I didn't eat lunch or just ate a sandwich and then I would transfer $5 or $6 towards my debt with online banking. All the small amounts added up and I went crazy on the debt. I was very emotional when I had debt, I didn't feel like a productive man. Now I feel more productive than ever. But I wonder about how many men and women feel undproductive because of the huge amount of debt that they have. I pray you attack the debt and sell all the junk to folks who do not care. There will always be people who do not care about their money...don't be one of those people...let your drive for going to work be to get and stay out of debt.

I Used A Credit Card and it felt so Good!

I used a Credit Card after posting about how I don't use credit cards. It felt really good to get back into paying interest on things I don't need. You know I may let my wife go to a new Dillards that just opened close to our home and do some shopping for herself. Here's the twist, i'm going to tell her to open up the store credit so she can get 10% off her first purchase and then pay 17% back to them in interest.

Okay, Okay.....April Fools (It's even hard to joke about it)

Used Cash to fix A/C unit and not a Credit Card

Last night I had the AC guy come out to fix what I thought was a loose wire. Apparently it needed a $200 part. Funny how expensive service calls can get. Well I had the guy fix it anyway and when he was done he told me the part plus the service call came out to $256. He suggested to me that I could pay with a credit card as well as a check. I took the opportunity to tell him that I only pay cash for services or anything else that I pay for. He said that people usually pay him with a credit card because A/C services are an emergency. I said well I can see where it can be an emergency, people not wanting to sweat. Then I got to thinking, some people need to sweat a little. Heck i'm sweating just thinking of the interest payments that are made by putting a new A/C unit on credit. People are more willing to sweat financially than sweat physically. Recipe for financial disaster. I cut a check and froze to death last night, debt free living feels good and so does my 69 degrees home.

Cut Your Credit Cards NOT Your Money

When you play with snakes you will eventually get bit.

Having credit cards and using them to pay for junk is like cutting up your money. It's painful, its a waste, it doesn't make sense and it sure does not get you ahead financially speaking. Pay with cash and keep your money instead of having to pay banks for lending you money.

Paying Cash could not feel any better

I remember when I put a college course on my Visa credit card that I got from Circuit City. That was one of the dumbest things I ever did...wait no it wasn't. Well it was dumb and it took me a whole year to pay off that class and I paid a high interest rate. I don't see how college students do not see how using credit cards builds up credit but it lowers your finanical destiny. This weekend my wife and I went to eat and I must admit, it feels good being able to pay with cash. So many people live off of credit cards and its hard for them to detach themselves from using them. Pay Cash, like take it, I promise!
