Chicago Vacation Paid in Full

Wrigley Field Cubs game

Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs Win

The best part of vacation is that you can bring home souvenirs and not credit card bills. I’ve heard of people going on vacation and putting everything on credit and I gotta tell you the thought of doing that makes my head hurt.

Anyways, so here we are outside of Wrigley Field right after the Chicago Cubs beat the NY Mets 7-6 on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. I think the highlight of the game was being able to sing Take me out to the ballgame during the seventh inning stretch, which is a tradition that broadcaster  Harry Caray was known for.

Chicago's Navy Pier

Debt Free Hispanic at Navy Pier

We just so happen to be in Chicago during Labor Day so the main attraction seemed to be Navy Pier. If you have ever been to Chicago or would like to go someday, be sure to check out Navy Pier, we must have ended up there three or four times during our trip, it’s just beautiful and so much to do. If you have kids, bring them here and they will have the time of their lives. Many tours go through this location and boat tours also start and end here.

Deep Dish Chicago Pizza

Pyzano's Deep Dish Chicago Pizza

Last but not least, I got a chance to eat some Chicago deep dish pizza. In fact I was to do eat pizza three times during out trip. I gotta tell you it’s true what they say about the pizza in Chicago, it’s amazing, not the healthiest food to eat but well worth it. We got to stay at a hotel called The Palmer’s House, and it’s a Hilton hotel with so much history going back to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

I will say the one thing we could have done without was a rental car. Event though it was convenient to have a car it was unnecessary. Even you are going to Chicago and wondering if you need to rent a car or not, if you are even close to downtown or Magnificent Mile or in the Loop, don’t do it. Public transportation is so affordable, the CTA was $2.25 to hop on and get to where you need to be. We ended up paying an average of $30/day to park our car in a garage. So other than that save your money and take a cab from the airport to your hotel and use public transportation because if you rent a car, you will have to pay for parking and rarely are there in and out priveledges.

So our Chicago vacation was awesome and the best part of all again is that I paid cash for everything and I don’t have to worry about my vacation following me home.
